Tyson Fury, the WBC heavyweight champion, has revealed that he seriously considered walking away from boxing following his controversial defeat to Oleksandr Usyk. Despite his frustration with the sport, Fury has decided to return for a rematch, determined to secure a decisive victory this time.
Speaking candidly to iFL TV, Fury admitted that he has grown disillusioned with boxing. “I’ve thought about walking away from it, because I’m over it now. I’m over the whole f****** boxing thing,” he said. The Gypsy King described a life where boxing no longer holds center stage. “Sit at home, go for a coffee, have a bit of dinner, take me kids to school—I can do what I want. I don’t need boxing. I don’t need to go and get my head punched in or punch someone’s head in.”
Fury painted a vivid picture of his post-boxing life, envisioning a more relaxed routine. “I can just go down the pub, have a few beers, have 6, 7, 8 pints if I want to every day,” he added, illustrating his readiness to leave the demanding sport behind.
Reflecting on his motivations for continuing, Fury admitted his drive has shifted over the years. “Years ago, I would’ve said, ‘I want to be world champion, I want to be rich, I want to buy a nice house, I want to buy a watch, I want to buy a car.’ But I’ve done all that,” he said. Now, his reason for stepping back into the ring is simpler: “Because I can.”
Despite his waning passion, Fury is laser-focused on the rematch with Usyk. He remains adamant that he didn’t lose their first fight and is determined to leave no doubt this time. “It makes sense to do the rematch and get me victory back,” he declared.
The Gypsy King is adopting a knockout mentality for the fight, citing his approach to the second bout with Deontay Wilder as inspiration. “Like I did in Wilder 2, I said I was going to knock him out and I did. And I’m going to knock this c*** out too,” Fury stated bluntly.
Fury’s decision to continue boxing and pursue the rematch reflects both his competitive spirit and his unwillingness to leave the sport on someone else’s terms. For fans of heavyweight boxing, his upcoming clash with Usyk promises to deliver another explosive chapter in Fury’s storied career.
