Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia De Rossi are living in England and plan to sell their U.S. home, according to multiple reports. Find out why.

Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia De Rossi are exiting the United States for a new home abroad.

The pair have moved to England and plan to sell their residence in Montecito, Calif., multiple outlets reported Nov. 20, citing sources as saying that the reason for their relocation was former President Donald Trump‘s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, who Ellen had endorsed, in the 2024 election earlier this month.

E! News has reached out to reps for Ellen and Portia for comment and has not heard back.

And it seems the couple—who tied the knot in 2008—is already settling in across the pond, as they were spotted last week visiting British host Jeremy Clarkson‘s pub The Farmer’s Dog, located in Burford, England.

As seen in a video that his girlfriend Lisa Hogan shared on Instagram, Ellen and Portia watched an acoustic performance of The Corrs, and were also joined by singer Natalie Imbruglia, best known for the 1997 hit “Torn,” who tours with the Irish group.

Ellen has owned several lavish properties in California over the years—including in Montecito near Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, as well as Oprah Winfrey—but recently moved to the Cotswolds, a celebrity-favorite rural area in England that includes Burford, TheWrap and TMZ reported.

The 66-year-old had largely stepped away from the spotlight in recent years. In 2022, she ended her daytime series The Ellen DeGeneres Show after 19 seasons, a move that came following an internal investigation of allegations of a “toxic work environment.” Three senior staff members had exited the production in 2020.

Ellen had apologized, saying on her series that year, “We have made the necessary changes and today we are starting a new chapter.”

This past July, Ellen signaled she was leaving the entertainment business. While performing a standup comedy show in in Santa Rosa, Calif., a fan asked if they could look forward to seeing her on Broadway or the big screen in the near future, and Ellen set the record straight.

“Um, no,” she said, according to SFGATE. “This is the last time you’re going to see me. After my Netflix special, I’m done.”

Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval, dubbed the “final comedy special of her historic career,” premiered on Netflix in September.

“I got kicked out of show business. Yeah, ’cause I’m mean,” the Finding Dory star joked on the special. “You can’t be mean and be in show business. No, they’ll kick you out. No mean people in show business.”

Ellen said she “loved” her show, adding, “It was a family to me.”

“I have a choice of people remembering me as someone who is mean, or someone who is beloved,” she said. “I choose that.”

Receiving the Carol Burnett Award at the 2020 Golden Globes, Ellen made sure to thank her “husband Mark” for being her rock.

“Thank you for supporting me through this crazy journey,” she quipped as Portia cracked up in the audience. “I know it wasn’t easy for you or the kids. Rupert and Fiona, go to bed.”
